John de Graaf
DIRECTOR / WRITER
John has been directing and writing documentaries, often for public television, for 46 years, winning more than 100 regional, national and international awards for filmmaking - including the highest award for legal reporting from the American Bar Association. More than a dozen of his films have been broadcast nationally in primetime on PBS, including his 1997 hit, Affluenza. His most recent film is Stewart Udall: the Politics of Beauty - partly financed through a campaign on Kickstarter. The John de Graaf Environmental Filmmaking Award is presented annually at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival in California. He spent 32 years with KCTS, the Seattle PBS affiliate, has taught documentary production at three colleges and authored four books. He lives in Seattle.

Laurence Cotton
PRODUCER
Laurence Cotton served as a producer of public television programs, including the recent Stewart Udall documentary, and he originated and produced the nationally broadcast film Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America. A public historian, Laurence delivers popular talks about the Olmsted landscape legacy and serves as a guest lecturer for a small ship cruise line, plying the waterways of North America. Laurence was the Director of the Cambridge Forum, a lecture series and public radio program. He was a senior aide in the Massachusetts State Senate, served as Executive Director of the World Affairs Council of Oregon, and played a leadership role in planning the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial.

Karen Olcott
PRODUCER
Karen Olcott grew up and lives in Falmouth, Massachusetts, the childhood home of Katharine Lee Bates. She has over 25 years of experience working with corporations and entrepreneurs with a mission to change the world for good. She led T-Mobile's strategic partnerships with several Fortune 100 companies. A 2-time Emmy winner in sports television, she was Executive Producer for a 2012 documentary Rape for Profit. She has a long track record of non-profit activism and philanthropy.

Greg Davis
PHOTOGRAPHER / EDITOR
Greg has been a photographer/editor for commercial and public television for nearly 40 years, including a 25-year stint at KCTS, the Seattle PBS affiliate. He has shot and edited several John de Graaf films, including Escape from Affluenza and Stewart Udall: The Politics of Beauty. Greg has won 13 regional Emmy awards and received 64 Emmy nominations in addition to many photography awards. He lives in Seattle.

Diana Wilmar
PHOTOGRAPHER
Diana has been a photographer for commercial and public television for more than 40 years, beginning with an assignment covering the war in El Salvador in the early 80s. She has worked on several films directed by John de Graaf, including The Motherhood Manifesto and A Personal Matter: Gordon Hirabayashi v. the United States - the American Bar Association award winner. Together, they have worked on films in the U.S., Mexico, Peru, Africa and Europe. Wilmar has won numerous Emmys and other awards for photography. She lives in Seattle.

Kate Udall
VOICE OF BATES
Kate is an actor, narrator and teacher. She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, UCSD, and Yale. Kate has performed in New York City and in regional theatres across the country. She appeared in all three Law and Order syndicates. In 2018, she became part of the Marvel universe in the Netflix TV show Daredevil, playing FBI honcho Tammy Hattley. She is a proud member of Actor’s Equity and SAG/AFTRA. Kevin White
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
Kevin is the Executive Director of Filmmakers Collaborative SF (our fiscal sponsor), as well as being a filmmaker with a long track record of PBS documentaries and festival awards. On behalf of Filmmakers Collaborative SF, Kevin will provide editorial guidance, script and edit review, fundraising and distribution assistance and fiscal supervision - as he did on John's Stewart Udall film. He lives in San Francisco.

Vada Manager

Vada Manager is a former senior executive at Nike Inc. and at Levi Strauss & Co. He was a senior advisor to Arizona governor and former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt as well as Arizona governor Rose Mofford. He has advised White Houses and international leaders such South African President Nelson Mandela and his cabinet. He has been involved in several HBO and Netflix documentaries and served as an executive producer of the Stewart Udall film. He was named one of the Most Influential Black Corporate Directors by Savoy Magazine. He resides in Phoenix, AZ and the Washington, DC area.

Michael Bade
MUSICAL COMPOSER
Michael Bade is a Composer and musician with a love for storytelling through music. He has written and performed music for films, commercials, and documentaries. Notably, he has worked extensively with acclaimed filmmaker John de Graaf, contributing to the soundtracks of many of his films. With a background in classical, folk, electronic and songwriting his music combines rich melodies and soundscapes to enhance the mood of narration and scenes.

Lisa Bade
GRAPHIC ARTIST
Lisa Bade draws, paints, and creates large scale parade art for socially engaged projects. For more than three decades, Lisa has taught studio art, art history and developed arts-infused global studies curriculum in Washington State public schools. Recently, she lived and worked in rural Cambodia, developing international funding and support for grassroots education projects and facilitating art workshops with a peace-building network of activists from marginalized groups in South and SE Asia. Lisa’s current passions are comics and visual narratives.

Bonnie Duncan

Bonnie Duncan is a writer who believes passionately in the power of stories to enrich lives with learning and shared experiences. With a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in communications, her skills have found a variety of contexts: associate producer for PBS documentary films, grant writing at KCTS, the Seattle PBS affiliate, and marketing and media outreach for architects who design schools for public education. A resident of Seattle since 1985, she has also lived in London, Maryland, Oregon, Minnesota, and Florida—adding interest to her broad perspectives.

Hana Jakoubkova/Jindrova

Hana Jakoubkova is a scientist and filmmaker, She researched her Ph.D. at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington, and received her doctorate in Physiology and Cell Biology at the Charles University in Prague. One of her goals was to promote critical thinking and scientific principles through media. In 2000 she started working with John de Graaf at the Seattle PBS station as a co-producer of documentaries. In 2019 she moved back to Prague to give her children a chance to become American/European hybrids. Her other interests include quantum physics, astronomy, geology, classical music, literature and SCUBA diving.
